ONE OF THE UP’S iconic companies is in new hands.
Trenary Home Bakery, the makers of Trenary Toast, changed ownership at the start of the year.
The new owners? Two 26-year-old NMU graduates, Marco Dossena and Brianna Wynsma (above photo), and Dossena’s mother, Annunciata Cerioli, who lives in Miami.
Dossena and Wynsma, who are also engaged, run the day-to- day operations of the bakery out of Trenary.
“We’ve always loved Trenary Toast,” says Dossena. “We eat it for breakfast. And we know what the company means to the UP. That’s why we bought it, and it gives us a chance to stay in the UP and grow roots here.”
The company’s been around for more than 90 years, gaining regional fame for its twice baked breads which now come in many flavors.
Dossena says the entire staff–24 in all–has been retained. As for any other changes, he says, not yet. He and Wynsma are still learning the ropes, and they’re not about to change a product that’s been a staple in so many UP pantries and on so many breakfast tables for nearly a century.
