COCO’S, THE LAKE SHORE Boulevard restaurant that’s been for sale for the last couple of years, is closing down on October 30th.
Owners Jackie and Patrick Gonda have given their employees and customers the sad news over the last few days.
The Gondas are retiring and will eventually relocate to Spain where Patrick’s elderly mother lives.
The closing hasn’t been easy for the owners. “It’s my baby,” Jackie says. “This has been a really hard time for me.”
The Gondas have owned Coco’s for eight and a half years. The restaurant has earned a reputation for delicious lunches and breakfasts, and at one time experimented with providing a lively nightlife but that was abandoned several months ago.
The Gondas have talked to potential buyers for the restaurant and property over the last several months but the deals fell through. Jackie says they’re currently talking to other interested parties but a deal does not appear imminent.
With winter setting in, it seems highly unlikely that someone else would step in to continue operating the restaurant, so apparently the building will go dark, probably for at least several months.
Coco’s has 14 employees who will now be looking for new jobs.
