THE BREAD WILL rise again at the Marquette Baking Company.
Founder and owner Peter Claybaker closed down his much beloved bakery a couple of months ago but now he’s sold the business to Courtney Dalman and Brian Quale. Dohlman is employed at the Marquette Co-op, Quale works in construction.
They expect to re-open the store in the spring.
“We’re just super excited about this,” Quale says. “We see it as a service to the community. We just want to continue making good bread for Marquette.”
They’re spending the next few months learning the equipment and recipes from Claybaker while continuing to service the bakery’s wholesale customers.
The name will stay the same–the Marquette Baking Company.
Dalman and Quale also intend to sell their bakery products at the Marquette Farmers Market.
A LITTLE BIT of Hollywood, UP style, is coming to the Ore Dock this evening (Thursday, 6pm).
The cast and crew of the post apocalyptic series Northbound will be showing up with a sneak preview of their third season.
The series is shot in the UP with most of the cast members from the UP, as well.
It’s the brainchild of Iron Mountain brothers Seth and Nathan Anderson and producer Jason Hagen. It’s being distributed by Seeka TV on the internet.
The Anderson brothers and Hagen are hoping to turn the series into a feature film.
A LOCAL BOY is making good.
Actually he and his wife are making Irish whiskey.
Nicolas and Violetta Boyle launched Irish Whitetail Distillery in Ireland last month. A brand new company, a brand new whiskey.
Nickolas graduated MSHS in 2007 and NMU in 2012. He and Violetta got married at St. Michael’s Parish in Marquette in 2016.
There’s a certain symmetry here. The Boyle family was evicted from Ireland in the 1850s, landed in the U.S., and gradually made their way to the U.P, by way of Pennsylvania. Now the youngster has returned to his ancestral home.
What better place to distill Irish whiskey than Ireland?
Irish Whitetail Whiskey should be available on some American shelves next year…and in the U.P. by no later than Christmas 2019.
Cheers.
