A THEATER IN downtown Marquette is one step closer to reality.
Word is, the Lake Superior Theater, which now operates out of the Boathouse, is interested in purchasing the so-called Book World building on West Washington Street.
It would operate as a non profit theater for not only movies but live events, as well.
An offer for the building has not been made yet but if things work out, it could be forthcoming soon.
For the last couple of months a campaign has been underway to buy the building and restore it as the Nordic Theater which closed down a couple of decades ago.
The campaign has been led by Bernie Rosendahl who lives downstate but lived in Marquette County as a child, and Josh MacIvor-Andersen, a writer and former professor living in Marquette.
Book World is now in the process of vacating the building. The revival of the theater will take some time—likely well over a year—if and when the offer for the building is made and accepted.
And that’s still a very big “if.”
