THE MUCH ANTICIPATED hearing on a controversial condo development on North Lakeshore Boulevard has been postponed. The postponement was requested by the developers.
The Marquette Planning Commission had been planning to take up the initial proposal to build two five story condo buildings on Lakeshore Boulevard. The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, was expected to draw a large, and possibly antagonistic crowd.
Project manager Dan Keller says the problem was largely logistics: Some of the principals in the project were traveling and wouldn’t be able to make it to Marquette. In fact, he says, the hearing may be postponed a month or two.
“We’ve heard some of the commentary (about the project),” he added, “and there’s a chance we may make a few changes in the project.”
He wouldn’t elaborate on any possible changes.
The development–known as the Picnic Rocks Condos–have been a hot topic in social media for the last week. The critics primarily complained about the size of the two buildings, the density (96 units plus some retail space) of the development, the anticipated price of the units (in the 300’s), and the overall look of the buildings.
