A SAD STORY at the Marquette Maritime Museum.
The museum’s director, Carrie Sue Fries, has been arraigned in District Court on two counts of embezzlement and three counts of forgery. She had been terminated from her job back in December after serving as director for more than 14 years.
Total loss, according to a museum source, was something in excess of $20,000–that’s to both the museum and the Darter-Dace Recognition Committee which is associated with the museum.
Until the termination, Fries reportedly was considered absolutely trustworthy by the museum’s Board of Directors.
A trial date has not been set.
The director’s position has not been filled yet but operations continue normally at the museum.
In fact, officials and volunteers are now preparing for the 150th anniversary of the Marquette Lighthouse on July 30th. Should be a huge extravaganza.
And that will be followed by the arrival of the Tall Ships here in Marquette on August 26th, 27th, and 28th.
