SOME CONFUSION AT Java Bay, the cute little coffee/sandwich/breakfast shop on Third Street.
Co-owner Bob Dudo posted on Facebook Sunday that he was leaving. Specifically, “Farewell Mqt It’s been my pleasure Java Bay Bob.”
Which led many to conclude that Java Bay, after four years, was closing down. Nope. It is closed today (Monday) but Dudo’s ex-wife, Nikki Collins, says she’ll be reopening it Tuesday.
“I’ll be taking over full-time in Marquette,” she says. “Nothing on the menu will change. My goal here is to be successful. I love it here.”
Dudo and Collins jointly owned Java Bay and Java by the Bay in L’Anse, but for the last couple of years, Collins operated the shop in L’Anse, and Dudo managed the Marquette shop.
Successfully, we might add. Dudo and Java Bay had some devoted fans. The breakfast burrito is near legendary.
So what happened exactly? Personal and legal stuff. Nothing we need to go into.
Bottom line? Java Bay will remain open.
And what about Dudo? What’s next for him?
His message Sunday night: “I’m headed to Florida. Gonna drift around awhile and see where I wash up.”
Not a bad idea. Every once in a while, we could all use a little drifting around and seeing where we wash up.
