A BIG WEEKEND for Lumi, Marquette’s fusion rock group that many think has a chance to be much more than just a local band.
Their single, “Home,” goes on sale today just about anywhere you can buy music–Spotify, iTunes, etc. And they’re releasing their video, as well. Here’s a tease from it.
“Home,” by the way, refers to the Upper Peninsula, and the video was shot along the shoreline between Marquette and Munising.
Lumi’s celebrating the release of the single and video with a major concert at the Masonic Center on Saturday night, from seven until midnight.
So can they break through? Can they become more than just six guys (four from Marquette, one from downstate, one from North Carolina) playing gigs around Marquette County?
“This summer, we going to venture outside the Marquette area,” says bassist Daniel LaBar. “We’ll be going on a mini-tour and applying at music festivals.”
They’ll need to find fans who’ve never heard of them, as well as a well-connected promoter who believes in them.
But ultimately, it’ll all come down to the music. Which, in the meantime, we here in Marquette can all enjoy.
Oh, one more thing. Lumi, the band, has no connection to Lumi, the apparel company, which we profiled earlier this week in WOTS. They just happen to be two sets of young, talented, local people, working in very different fields…and sharing the name Lumi.
