MARQUETTE COUNTY SHOPPERS, fire up your shopping carts.
Meijer has announced that it’s closed on its purchase of property in Marquette Township and will be building a super center there. The store will be located behind Lowe’s, just off of US 41.
Meijer will begin construction this year and open its doors next year, probably in summer.
The company signed a purchase agreement last year and has been conducting its due diligence ever since–road access, permits and such.
The store, when it’s built, will pose direct competition to Walmart, Target, and Super One, all within a couple of minutes away.
Meijer currently operates 230 stores throughout the Midwest.
The first two Meijer stores in the Upper Peninsula, in Escanaba and Sault Ste Marie, are expected to open later this year.
