Fans of Marquette Music Scene, the online live music calendar, were disappointed last month to find their efforts to source the site on Facebook only resulted in being sent to an abandoned site. It seems the popular social media page had been misappropriated (hacked and stolen) by some unscrupulous entity, much to the dismay of area music fans.
According to Andrew “Bear” Tyler, who shares site editing duties with Cindy Engle, the loss of the site meant the loss of close to 4000 followers. And those 4000 followers no longer had their daily bulletin showing who’s playing where and when, like the Flat Broke Blues Band, seen above, playing at Blackrocks Brewery.
Marquette Music Scene has always been a free service with incomparable value to fans, bands, and the venues who host them.
It was a handy guide for those who like a little entertainment with their food and drink. Wanna go out for a bev but you’d also like to support the local music scene? Just check the MMS post and you’ll know where to find your favorite musicians, or some local jammers you haven’t yet seen and heard. It was that easy.
It was missed, but it’s nice to be able to tell you… it’s back! And, according to Bear, they’re “on a serious mission this year to be producing more shows and more editorial content.”
What shows, you ask? Well, first up is their annual Marquette Music Scene Hall of Fame awards show. It’s where local musicians and promoters get recognition for contributions made to this important part of the Marquette arts community. It’s no coincidence that the event is held on the evening of Small Business Saturday… this Saturday, November 25th. It’s usually a small business that books and pays our local bands.
If you’re a solitary musician or part of a group, or you own a venue that regularly hosts live music, make sure you let Marquette Music Scene know who is playing, and when. It’s free advertising, and it’s a great service to those who like tunes with their brews.
