DOUG RUSSELL IS out as the executive director at Room at the Inn.
No reason given for what Russell refers to as his “termination” which occurred on Thursday.
“The Board is looking for new leadership,” Ryan Redmond says. He’s been manager at the Warming Center and is now acting as interim executive director at Room at the Inn.
Russell, who had been in the position since 2015, was highly regarded by many in the volunteer community that cares for the homeless in Marquette. He’d been pushing recently for a permanent facility for the homeless–instead of several local churches who provide lodging on a rotating basis.
Room at the Inn has also faced friction with with the police department and some merchants who claim that Room at the Inn attracts the homeless to Marquette.
So what lies ahead?
“We’ve expanded the Board recently,” says Redmond, “and we’re looking forward to getting a fresh start.”
As for Russell’s future, he simply says, “I don’t know. I’m taking a few days to myself.”
