WHAT THE HELL?
The Travel Channel is back in town, doing yet another story on Marquette. This one features celebrities’ hometowns–in this case, Jeff Daniels who’s kind of adopted the U.P. as his own because his wife, Kathleen, is from Marquette and they’re frequent visitors.
The Travel Channel crew is in town this week scouting and shooting locations. Daniels, himself, will reportedly visit sometime in the not-too-distant future to complete the shoot.
At last word, the crew had visited Donckers, Getz’s, Phil’s 550, the ore dock (the actual one, not the brewery), and the Lumberjack Tavern in Big Bay.
Yeah, that’s what you call local color.
And why the Lumberjack you ask? Well, Daniels has a bit of a history there and he wrote a song about it–The Big Bay Shuffle–that he explained and demonstrated on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon a couple of years ago.
It’s a lotta fun, though it does feed the image that we do a lot more drinking than thinking here in the Upper Peninsula.
Of course, it was just about a week ago that another Travel Channel crew was here shooting a segment for Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations, hosted by Andrew Zimmern.
More local color.
Another boost for the tourist industry.
